Blackhawks News: Patrick Sharp is leaving the team once again
The Chicago Blackhawks have had a lot of tremendous moments with Patrick Sharp. He scored a lot of goals and made a lot of plays with the team during the greatest stretch in franchise history. He is one of the handful of players that won three Stanley Cups with them.
Late in his career, Sharp was traded to the Dallas Stars so he already knows what it is like to leave the organization (although he did come back for one swan songs year) to end it.
Now, he is leaving the organization once again. He is headed to the Philadelphia Flyers where he will be the Special Advisor to Hockey Operations.
Honestly, although Sharp was very good as an analyst, we always knew that he’d be in a front office one day. He is a competitive guy that has a lot to offer NHL teams.
The Chicago Blackhawks and Patrick Sharp won’t be together for a while.
Ahead of his playing days with the Blackhawks, Sharp did play for the Philadelphia Flyers so seeing him go back there isn’t all that surprising. He will certainly do a great job there in this new role of his.
Philly is early in their rebuild. They decided not to be full-blown sellers at the deadline this year and it cost them good chances at Connor Bedard or Adam Fantilli.
Well, they have started their rebuild now and will certainly be in contention for the number one pick next year. They have a long way to go and Sharp is going to be a voice in the room with some of the decisions that they will be making soon.
The Metropolitan Division is a beast so the Flyers might take the slow approach and look for sustained success. Sharp, better than anybody, knows that there is a smart way to build a team.
Keith Jones and Danny Briere are the ones at the top of that front office so we will see how they all do as the years come along.
Sharp will be missed in Chicago but Darren Pang is going to do a great job next to Chris Vosters. Maybe one day, his post-retirement career will reflect his playing career and he will return to Chicago for a job.
