Jaylon Jones won’t be on the Chicago Bears roster in 2024

The Bears’ cornerback room is finally improving after being a huge weakness two years ago. Now, they have rookie Tyrique Stevenson to line up opposite Jaylon Johnson on the outside, moving Kindle Vildor to the bench and veteran Jaylon Jones even further back.

Jones was not good last year. He had some great moments, but those came few and far between. Mostly, he looked out of place and far behind many plays. Vildor being the first man up off the bench will help, but the Bears can’t afford games where Jones would have to step in. Fortunately, they also have rookie Terrell Smith out of Minnesota who will compete for a spot on the depth chart, too.

Next year, at the latest, we will see Jones off this Bears roster.

Finally, another somewhat bold take at the receiver position. Poles will have proven to be more inept at the wide receiver position than he is at any other position. But, again, not every pick, trade or signing is going to be a hit.

Velus Jones Jr. had plenty of skeptics after Poles took him last year in the third round, and based on his rookie campaign, those skeptics had fair points. It’s not just his age, but he certainly showed some rookie jitters. Is Jones cut out for the NFL? This season will prove a lot, but ultimately, I believe he will be with a new team next season.
