Chicago White Sox: 6 players worthy of All-Star consideration
By Todd Welter
The Chicago White Sox have some good bullpen arms to consider for ASG.
Kendall Graveman should get some All-Star love.
Graveman’s splits are outstanding. Lefties are hitting .038 with a .281 OPS. Right-handed hitters are batting .188 with a .627 OPS.
He has not given up a run since April 30th. Graveman has given up just two hits since April. His WHIP is .90. If Graveman keeps this up, he might be in the discussion for an All-Star selection.
Gregory Santos has been a good bullpen arm.
The Chicago White Sox bullpen was awful in April but Santos was one of the few reliable arms to come out of it.
He posted a 1.88 ERA in the opening month and then followed it up with a 2.51 ERA in May. He has been especially tough on left-handed hitters. They are hitting .213 with a .544 OPS. Righties are hitting .278 but have a .686 OPS.
Santos has been a nice find for general manager Rick Hahn. He had pitched in just five games over two seasons with the San Francisco Giants.
He has pitched well this season with a 2.86 FIP while hitters’ exit velocity is under 90 mph. His pitching velocity is one of the fastest in the big leagues.
Santos has gone from struggling to make it in the Majors to possibly making the All-Star Game in his first full season.
Although, he is also making Hahn look a little bad. Rick spent a lot of money on the bullpen but one of his best arms is making around $700k.
Considering the bullpen has become the team’s strength, it is not worth making a big deal out of it. A bigger deal should be made if no one from the relief corp. is represented in the All-Star Game.
