Strongest positions on the Chicago Bears roster: No. 1, Linebacker

All is right in the world, once again. The strongest position on the Bears’ roster is, without a doubt, at linebacker. All three starters are formidable players, with Tremaine Edmunds being the star. The Bears went out and got their defensive cornerstone in a guy like Edmunds, who does just about everything well, but especially excels in coverage.

The team also signed former Eagles linebacker T.J. Edwards, who comes in as an ultra-productive linebacker that racks up tackles left and right. Edwards tallied a team-high 159 total tackles last year, with 99 of them coming solo. Those 99 solo tackles were also good for the most solo tackles in the NFL in 2022, per Pro Football Reference.

He’s great against the run, but can also play well against the pass. Last year, Edwards tallied seven passes defensed and gave up only an 82.1 opposing quarterback rating while allowing zero touchdowns.

Then, there’s last year’s undrafted rookie who became a Chicago favorite, real fast: Jack Sanborn. The former Badger earned his spot the hard way, but came into his own as a do-it-all type who is another one of those tackling machines. Between the three of them, Chicago’s linebacker depth is the best it’s been in years.
