Strongest positions on the Chicago Bears roster: No. 4, Safety

Two years ago, safety looked bleak for the Bears. Eddie Jackson had gotten paid and, in turn, taken a big step back. He hadn’t played up to his potential in a while, it seemed, and many fans would have been happy to see Chicago get out of his contract by trading him, somehow.

Fast forward to last season, and Jackson finally reverted back to a similar player he was when he first entered the league. After failing to come up with a single interception in his previous two years, Jackson picked off four passes in 2022 to go with six passes defended and the second-highest tackling total of his career with 80 in total.

Next to him was 2022 second-round pick, Jaquan Brisker, who became the type of running mate Jackson needed in order to take some pressure off. Brisker was the perfect guy to come in and play the strong safety role; someone who can play closer to the line of scrimmage at times and create disruption in the back field from time to time.

Brisker is going to be a star in this league, and it will only allow Jackson to do what he does bets on a more regular basis. The Bears’ starting safeties present one of the better duos in the game today, and will be a big reason why this unit turns the ball over more and more going forward.
