Chicago Bears Rumors: A new stadium in Chicago is not out of the question

For a while now, it appeared as though the Chicago Bears were going to have a new home in Arlington Heights.

The Bears were looking forward to heading up the single largest building development project in state history, but as of just a few days ago, that project might be in jeopardy.

A statement was released saying that Arlington Heights is no longer the Bears’ “singular focus,” as the organization will listen to other Chicagoland cities throughout this process. The main reason for Arlington Heights not being their primary focus, now, is due to a sizable tax bill.

With that, the Bears released a statement on the situation.

Bears president Kevin Warren is also going to look at Naperville as a possibility for a new stadium, per a new report.

Along with Naperville and Arlington Heights, it certainly appears as though the city of Chicago could wind up back in the running now, too. What a twist of events.

Could the Bears actually end up staying within the city limits of Chicago?

Kam Buckner, an Illinois state representative, recently said that Chicago is now a real possibility once again. The Bears might have a shot to stay in Chicago, after all.

“The Bears entertaining the idea of moving to Naperville, I think opens up a window of hope for those who us who have always felt that we should still be having conversations about finding a deal that makes sense for both the city of Chicago and the Chicago Bears organization. And I think Mayor Johnson really does deserve the opportunity to broker that deal,” Buckner said.

Amanda Vinicky of Chicago news organization WTTW has information from a source with knowledge of the circumstance at hand, and reported that talks between the Bears and the city of Chicago are likely to start taking place again in the next few days.

For fans who would like to see the team stay in Chicago, this is good news. But, there will be a lot of logistical things to work through.

I won’t pretend to be an expert in architecture or understanding the ins and outs of property taxes, but the fact that the team could end up staying in Chicago is, at least, somewhat exciting.
