Chicago Bulls: 3 moves to make instead of re-signing Nikola Vucevic
By Ryan Heckman
The NBA offseason is set to officially begin on June 30, where players can begin negotiations with prospective teams in free agency. For the Chicago Bulls, that means guys like Nikola Vucevic and Coby White could find a new home.
But, it seems as though the Bulls aren’t going to let that happen, for Vucevic, at least.
According to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun Times, the Bulls are prepared to get a multi-year extension done with Vucevic; three years, to be specific.
While Vucevic has been mostly a good player in Chicago, he’s also had his times of frustration and inconsistency. Instead of the Bulls re-signing Vucevic, they should make other moves. They might not, but here are three moves that Arturas Karnisovas and the Bulls should make instead of re-signing Vucevic.
Moves the Chicago Bulls should make instead of re-signing Nikola Vucevic: Re-sign Coby White first
The first priority for Chicago, this offseason, should not be Nikola Vucevic. It should be re-signing Coby White to be their point guard of the future.
Look at the point guard position for this organization. It’s been in flux for years, now. Dating all the way back to the Derrick Rose injury, this team simply hasn’t had a long-term answer. Now having to deal with Lonzo Ball’s injury, and the thought of him possibly never playing again, the Bulls need an answer, and they need it bad.
White enjoyed a breakout season last year, proving that he is not just the scorer we knew he could be, but the defender and facilitator. He truly came into his own as a complete player, which is impressive considering his career trajectory wasn’t always stable in Chicago.
Getting White locked down has to be the first priority, period.
