This is a sports world where headlines can be dominated by players’ demands, requirements and ultimatums at times. Fortunately for the Chicago Bears, their franchise quarterback isn’t included in those types.

Justin Fields is entering his third season as a pro, and based on the flashes we saw last year, it’s definitely time to start thinking about how this coming season will impact his future as a Bear and how he could end up getting paid. He’ll be eligible for an extension after the 2023 season, and the media knows that, too.

Tuesday, Fields was asked about how this coming season impacts how he approaches things, considering a new contract could be on the line.

“I think every year is a big year. So, I mean, yeah — I don’t really have anything to expand on that. But for me, every year is a big year and I’m excited to show,” Fields said earlier in the week.

Justin Fields is exactly the quarterback Chicago Bears fans should be proud to have

The comparisons between Fields and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will continue to come, so long as his performance continues to improve. But, Hurts’ mentality has been similar since entering the league. He’s a humble man, a hard worker and comes to grind each and every day. He’s also a man of character, which Fields is as well.

“I’m not worried about contracts. I’m worried about wins. I could care less.”

The above quote is one that Bears fans should remember, because when next offseason rolls around and the noise starts up again, we can rest assured the man is going to stay water. He’s going to let his agent worry about the contract and continue to go to work each day.

The media also asked Fields about 2023 being the year he has no excuses, and he seemed to take a bit of exception to that idea.

“For me, I just try not to make excuses. I feel like I said this multiple times last year — no matter what the situation is, I’m going to go out there on the field and play my hardest for my teammates, for my coaches. So, that’s kind of how I look at it. I never really was looking at it as excuses, if that’s the answer to your question.”

Fields understands what it takes to be a professional, and he’s been nothing but that since entering the league. The Bears got a real one, that’s for sure.
