Chicago Bears: 5 best moves of the 2023 offseason
By Ryan Heckman
1. Trading the number one overall pick for D.J. Moore and draft picks was by far the Chicago Bears’ best offseason move
Everything that happened in free agency and the draft was gravy on top of what Poles did to kick off his work this offseason. Trading the number one pick to the Carolina Panthers was, by far, his best offseason move.
The Bears get a 26-year-old franchise wide receiver with three years still under contract. Moore has had three seasons over 1,000 receiving yards already and that’s been with pretty inconsistent quarterback play. With Fields under center and an improved line, Moore should be able to top that number for a fourth time.
Not only did the Bears get Moore, but they also received the rights to draft Darnell Wright, a first-round pick next year and a pair of seconds as well. Chicago now has their franchise quarterback, a true alpha wide receiver, a highly-improved roster, plenty of cap space still, and a chunk of draft capital to work with next year.
That one trade set the Bears up for far more success than they would have had, if they had kept the pick for some reason.
