2. Drafting stud offensive tackle Darnell Wright was crucial for the Chicago Bears offense

While Nate Davis was a killer signing, the Bears desperately needed an answer at right tackle, too. This organization needed to find another anchor at tackle, opposite of Braxton Jones, to ensure Justin Fields doesn’t get killed.

When free agency opened up, many fans wanted the team to sign a guy like Mike McGlinchey or some of the other top names available, but Chicago was outbid on McGlinchey and didn’t end up with any of the others out there.

Then, it came time for the draft. Poles couldn’t afford to reach on an offensive tackle, but he also had to address the position. It seemed the only obvious answer was to get it done in the first round, and that’s what he did.

Darnell Wright comes to Chicago as a hard-working young man, having thoroughly impressed the coaching staff with what he did in a pre-draft workout. He is not just a hard worker, but a standup individual and the total Eberflus type. This move was a cornerstone move for the Bears.
