Chicago Bears News: 3 reasons to sign DeAndre Hopkins
On Friday, we learned that the Arizona Cardinals are parting ways with star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Hopkins had two years left on his deal after spending three with the Cardinals.
He had spent the previous 7 years with the Houston Texans. With both organizations over ten years, he has become one of the best receivers of his era.
Now, he is looking for a new NFL home where he can make a good impact. He is entering his age 31 season (he will turn 31 on June 6th) so there is still plenty of good football left in the tank.
The Chicago Bears should consider adding a player like this. He could do a lot of good if he came to a young team trying to grow. This is something Ryan Poles should do for three really good reasons:
1. Development of Justin Fields
Developing Justin Fields is very important for the Chicago Bears in 2023.
Justin Fields is expected to be the new face of the franchise for a long time. He already kind of is the face of the franchise and he hasn’t even taken a big NFL step yet. His 2022 season was great but he has a lot of room to improve.
They already added wide receivers like DJ Moore and Chase Claypool to join Darnell Mooney and it feels like a really nice receiving core. If they added someone like DeAndre Hopkins to the mix, this wide receiver room would be fairly elite.
This would really help Fields take that next step as a passer. We already know he can make plays with his feet but it was his ability to make throws that made him so successful at Ohio State. If he can combine that with a great passing game, the offense will be elite in short order.
