Chicago Bulls: 3 Lakers free agents to sign this offseason
By Ryan Heckman
Now that the Los Angeles Lakers join the rest of the NBA in watching from home, it’s time to look ahead to their offseason. The Chicago Bulls have been there for weeks, now, and both of these teams are going to see some changes unfold over the next two months.
For the Lakers, they only have LeBron James and Anthony Davis securely under contract for next season. What they do from here, and what LeBron decides to do, specifically, is going to be interesting to watch.
The Bulls, meanwhile, have some big decisions that hinge on guys like Coby White and Nikola Vucevic, with a possible DeMar DeRozan trade on the horizon. A rebuild around Zach LaVine is also among many rumors.
With the Lakers having so many players set to enter free agency, though, let’s look at a few the Bulls could opt to pursue, whether it be for the short or long-term.
The Chicago Bulls could sign guard Lonnie Walker
We know the Bulls need to find more offense, and particularly guys who aren’t afraid to take over games. That’s easier said than done, if they’re looking to build around LaVine, but I digress.
The first free agent the Bulls could look at is guard Lonnie Walker, who is known as more of a three-and-D type of rotational player. Adding him to the back court with Alex Caruso, off the bench, gives Chicago some excellent depth in terms of perimeter defenders. Walker isn’t an all-world defender, by any means, but he’s average.
Walker shot the best from beyond the arc, last year, then he’s shot in three seasons, at over 36 percent.
Last year, Walker was on a 1-year deal worth only $6.4 million, so he would come cheap.
He’d be more of an end-of-the-roster type, but at the very least, he’s a young player the Bulls could give a look to if they’re looking to get more youth.
