Terrell Lewis might surprise and make the Chicago Bears 2023 roster

Back before the 2020 NFL Draft, Alabama edge rusher Terrell Lewis was looked at as a potential starter in the league. After all, you will typically find yourself having a strong NFL career if you’re a defensive player coming out of Alabama.

He was taken in the third round by the Los Angeles Rams, but the team parted ways with him last year and the Bears signed him to their practice squad.

At the moment, some depth charts have Lewis listed as an inside linebacker. The Bears have to figure out where he fits best, and if he can truly line up without his hands in the dirt and play a traditional linebacker position, whether it’s inside or outside.

As a rusher, Lewis is a long-limbed, tall frame who still has potential to develop. But, if the Bears view him more as a linebacker, then he could also have a chance to stick on the roster. Rookie Noah Sewell should be a lock to make the roster as a draft pick from this year, but as for a fifth linebacker, that door is wide open.

The Bears have Dylan Cole and Sterling Weatherford ahead of Lewis right now, but training camp could change that in a hurry. If Lewis wants to make something of his pro career, this summer is a big one for him. After three seasons in the league and a former third-round pick, he’s looking like a practice squad player.
