D’Anthony Jones might surprise and make the Chicago Bears 2023 roster

One of the more notable undrafted free agents the Bears signed is D’Anthony Jones out of Houston, who comes to a team that needs an answer up front within the pass rush group. Trevis Gipson, Dominique Robinson and DeMarcus Walker are all solid no. 2 or no. 3 guys, but the Bears either need a star to emerge from this group or to sign a veteran free agent.

Even then, the Bears could use one more guy within this group. Jones might just be that guy.

At the moment, Jones’ biggest competition is veteran Rasheem Green, who has spent time with both the Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks over the past few years. Green was a starter for Seattle in 2021, where he tallied a career-high 6.5 sacks. Last year with the Texans, Green finished with just 3.5.

Jones, meanwhile, is a player to watch this offseason. He’s a high motor player who possesses excellent hand usage and a nasty spin move. He wins with leverage and shows off a huge burst at times, which is necessary at the pro level with such athletic offensive tackles.

If the Bears see something in Jones, he could surpass someone like Green on the depth chart in a hurry. This group is far from solidified, and Poles knows it.
