Trade Number 3: The Chicago Bulls do what we didn’t think they would and trade Zach LaVine

A recent rumor had the Bulls being open to trading DeMar DeRozan and then building their roster around Zach LaVine as the clear number one option, and I think most Bulls fans would agree that this would be a bad idea.

LaVine is a good player, but he’s not a number one option. Unfortunately, Chicago has extended both Billy Donovan and Arturas Karnisovas, so it appears as though they truly could be in for an extended run of more of the same: mediocrity.

Now, let’s say that somehow, some way, the front office decides to try and move on from LaVine’s contract and start over with another rebuild. If that was the case, maybe this trade gets them a little closer to landing Lillard.

This deal would see the Bulls give up LaVine, White in a sign-and-trade again, plus both first-round picks and a couple of second rounders as well.

This might not be the very best deal that Portland would receive around the league, but it’s probably one of the best that Chicago could offer. If you took out White and substituted Patrick Williams, then maybe Portland would like that better. It depends on which of those two players the Blazers would want, and how the salary cap would figure.

If Portland could absorb Williams, White and LaVine, with some work around the cap, then maybe the Bulls offer that as well.

Still, it probably wouldn’t be enough for the Bulls to become the top bidders. In any event, it’s worth trying, because Chicago is not headed anywhere but for more of the same in the near future.
