Chicago Bears players who will be cut before 2023 season: C Doug Kramer
Last year, the Bears drafted Doug Kramer as part of their barrage of linemen selected on Day 3. While it was a nice story to have a hometown kid come to Chicago as a possible future starter or at the very least, a reserve, that story probably won’t come to fruition.
Going into the season, the Bears will probably have Cody Whitehair and Lucas Patrick starting at guard and center, in some fashion. Then, of course, there’s free agent signing Nate Davis at the other guard. Behind them, there is Teven Jenkins as a reserve guard. If either Whitehair or Patrick get hurt, then the other would step into the center role as they both have experience at the position.
Jenkins might also end up starting at guard, making way for a guy like Patrick to be a backup guard and center.
Kramer is a bit too thin and not strong enough to play the position in the NFL. Chicago also might choose to keep veteran Dieter Eislen as a backup guard, too, making a total of five interior linemen we’ve kept on the roster aside from Kramer.
If the Bears kept nine linemen, with five of them being interior, then Kramer doesn’t really have a shot. He’ll probably also have to beat out fellow rookie from last year, Ja’Tyre Carter. A little bigger than Kramer, Carter might be the better option if it came down to those two for a spot. But, the bottom line is, Kramer is going to have an uphill battle.
