Chicago Bears players who will be cut before 2023 season: QB Nathan Peterman
This might seem like a no-brainer, but it all depends on what type of backup the Bears want to keep around behind Justin Fields. Earlier in the offseason, they signed former Carolina Panthers quarterback P.J. Walker to come in and be the backup.
Then, the Bears re-signed Nathan Peterman. However, that signing likely means nothing. With Walker coming in as the initial signing, and Peterman later on, the Bears were likely getting their roster ready for training camp. Every team wants to have at least three quarterbacks going into camp, and Peterman comes in as that third guy on the depth chart right now.
Walker is the better fit, as he’s more mobile. But, he also possesses a greater arm than Peterman. We all remember that hail Mary to D.J. Moore last year to send the game into overtime against Atlanta, right? That was a heck of a throw.
Peterman is a valuable camp arm, but likely nothing more. Again, he will probably end up on the practice squad, and he’ll hold even more value there as an experienced veteran. But, the Bears finally went with a more similar backup to Fields; a guy with some legs and a big arm.
