Chicago Bears players who will be cut before 2023 season: WR Dante Pettis
This is an interesting one, because Dante Pettis did have some flashes last year. He seemed to have a good relationship with Justin Fields, and because of that, the Bears re-signed him to another deal.
But, the way it stands, it might be between Pettis and Velus Jones Jr. for the final wide receiver spot.
The Bears have D.J. Moore, Darnell Mooney, Chase Claypool and rookie Tyler Scott as their top four. From there, they have Equanimeous St. Brown, whom they also re-signed and is by far, and away, their best blocking wide receiver. So, he’s not going anywhere. That makes five wide receivers for the Bears.
Would they even consider keeping seven? That’s doubtful. Maybe, Pettis becomes a practice squad candidate. There’s no chance the Bears actually cut Jones, right? That would be quite the decision, with Poles completely admitting failure on last year’s third-round selection.
While Pettis does offer excellent speed, still, along with special teams ability, there just might not be a spot on the roster for him.
