Chicago Bears players who will be cut before 2023 season: LB Terrell Lewis

It is pretty crazy how quickly things can change for you in the NFL. At one point, Terrell Lewis was a third-round pick out of Alabama. The Los Angeles Rams took Lewis, who came into the league as a situational rusher with a ton of promise, and three seasons later, decided to cut him.

Chicago picked him up last year, signing him to the practice squad in December. Now, he currently sits behind quite a few linebackers on the depth chart.

Lewis is also an odd fit in the Bears’ defense, because he’s tall at 6-foot-5, but weighs only 260 pounds. He’s not heavy enough to play a true defensive end, but doesn’t have the coverage skills to line up at outside linebacker. The Bears could try him inside, but he would likely have both Tremaine Edmunds and rookie Noah Sewell in front of him.

At the other linebacker spots, he’s already behind Jack Sanborn, T.J. Edwards, Sterling Weatherford and Dylan Cole. The Bears aren’t going to keep six or seven linebackers, but more likely five. That leaves Lewis off the roster, and possibly a practice squad candidate.
