Chicago Bears players who will be cut before 2023 season: RB Trestan Ebner

This offseason started out in somewhat of a sad manner when one of the first departures we saw, in Chicago, was that of running back David Montgomery. When Montgomery signed with the Detroit Lions, the Bears immediately got to work in padding their depth.

Chicago signed a pair of veterans after Montgomery’s departure: D’Onta Foreman and Travis Homer. It will be Foreman who takes on more of the Montgomery style and role, as he’s a between-the-tackles type of runner. Meanwhile, Homer is a great third down back who can catch the ball, but most importantly, he’s a great pass blocker.

The Bears will obviously be starting Khalil Herbert, unless something drastic happens over the summer. Herbert proved he could handle the role during Montgomery’s absence last year, and he’ll get his shot.

Chicago also drafted Texas running back Roschon Johnson in the fourth round this year, and he’s starting to gain a little hype as well, as a guy who could eventually take the starting job.

That leaves last year’s sixth-round pick, Trestan Ebner, as an odd man out. The Bears will not be keeping five running backs, so there’s simply no place for Ebner on the roster.
