Chicago Bulls Rumors: 3 DeMar DeRozan trades to consider this offseason
By Ryan Heckman
This offseason, and going into the 2023-2024 season, the Chicago Bulls very well might be in for more of the same.
While other playoff teams are making moves like firing coaches and getting serious about winning titles, the Bulls continue to stand pat after extending Billy Donovan, who boasts a 117-119 record in three seasons.
On the other hand, maybe the Bulls surprise us and go out to make some changes. Maybe, they admit this core won’t win and try to rebuild, or retool, once more.
One of those possible moves could be trading All Star swing man DeMar DeRozan, who has been involved in some trade rumors as of late. If the Bulls did try to move DeRozan, the following three teams and trades could make sense.
Trade Number 1: The Chicago Bulls take advantage of a Suns team looking to retool
The Phoenix Suns are one of the teams in the thick of many rumors as the offseason nears. We’ve seen reports of the team potentially moving on from point guard Chris Paul, as well as some more likely scenarios where Phoenix tries to move center Deandre Ayton.
Desiring a fresh start (and he needs one), Ayton could go to Chicago in a swap for DeRozan. Financially, it makes sense. However, is a player-for-player swap enough for Phoenix to move on from Ayton’s contract?
Because Ayton’s effort has been in question and the passion doesn’t always seem to be there, the Suns send Chicago a first-round pick along with the big man. By landing DeRozan, meanwhile, Phoenix could roll out with a starting rotation that includes Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and DeRozan.
At that point, it doesn’t matter who plays center. The Suns would almost have to be the title favorites going into next year.
