Chicago Bears: 3 unfair expectations for Justin Fields in 2023
By Ryan Heckman
This offseason will be dubbed the offseason that Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles went all-in on his quarterback, Justin Fields.
Just after watching his dynamic, dual-threat quarterback nearly break an NFL record, Poles went out and proved that the meant business over the course of the offseason.
Between trading the number one overall pick and ending up with wide receiver D.J. Moore and a plethora of picks, signing some key free agents to bolster this roster everywhere, and what Poles did in the 2023 NFL Draft, he has given Fields just about everything he could want for his third season in the league.
This coming season should be a fun one for Fields, but some might be jumping the gun on over-hyping what type of season he will have.
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is primed for a true breakout, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves
Sure, Moore is going to be the alpha wide receiver Fields has needed. And, the additions of Nate Davis via free agency and Darnell Wright in the draft are going to pay dividends for a young quarterback that was hit over and over again last season.
Fields will be better protected and he has weapons. That is a fact.
But, for a city that’s been quarterback-starved for the majority of its existence, they simply cannot put unfair and unrealistic expectations on his back in just his third year.
Believe it, Fields is going to have his best season yet. He’s going to enjoy more protection and will be enabled to pass the ball more. But, let’s take a step back on some of the more outlandish expectations some fans might have for him in 2023.
