D’Onta Foreman

The Chicago Bears might not use D’Onta Foreman as much in 2023.

D’Onta Foreman is the newest Chicago Bear on this list. A powerful runner last year in Carolina, Foreman was brought in to take over the David Montgomery role.

In his lone season as a Panther, Foreman rushed for 914 yards on 4.5 YPC (both career bests). His combination of downhill running and consistent pass blocking made Foreman a reliable back in 2022. This spurt of production showed the Bears that he could be their lead back, at least for one season.

This vision seemingly ended when the Bears selected Roschon Johnson in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. A shifty yet powerful back out of the University of Texas, Johnson is expected to eat into the Foreman’s touches as early as day one.

Johnson was seen in mock drafts going as early as the second round. So, when he was still on the board at No. 115, the Bears couldn’t help but take the high-character running back.

It might take a few weeks for Johnson to acclimate to the speed of the NFL game but at the end of the day, he is going to be the future of the Bears backfield.

Khalil Herbert is another mouth that will need to be fed, as he had a productive 2022 season in the navy and orange. With three explosive runners now deployed in a single backfield there won’t be a workhorse. Not the situation Foreman expected when initially signing with Chicago.
