3 veteran tackles the Chicago Bears must sign after 2023 NFL Draft
By Josh De Luca
George Fant
George Fant would be perfect for the Chicago Bears going forward.
George Fant is the most talented player on this list. Fant is coming off three consecutive seasons on the Jets that saw him start 14, 15, and 7 games. Fant has been a fantastic swing tackle but with Mekhi Becton struggling to stay healthy in New York, Fant has held down the tackle position for the better part of the last three seasons.
Before his stint in New York, Fant spent four years in Seattle where he started 24 games. He played quality football at both tackle positions for Pete Carroll but after four seasons, they decided to part ways.
With Fant being the most reliable tackle remaining in free agency, there is a possibility that he isn’t interested in taking a cheap deal or a backup role. At this point in his career, holding out for a contender to make a move just makes sense.
Either way, the Bears should give Fant a call. He has been an ascending player every season he has been in the league and would be more than a reliable 6th man on this Chicago offensive line.
Fant has been linked to teams like the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans but nothing official has been reported. Fant has been a starting-caliber tackle the last few seasons so if the Bears want to make a move on the veteran, it’s going to have to be sooner rather than later.
