Lucas Giolito has been good for the Chicago White Sox’s inconsistent rotation.

Giolito has made seven starts and has only had one bad outing. Taking out his second start of the season against the Pirates where he gave seven earned runs, Giolito has only yielded nine earned runs.

He leads the starting rotation with a 3.67 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. He is also one of just three pitchers on the 26-man roster with an ERA under four. He is the one starter to consistently pitch more than five innings.

The pitching has been the most glaring weakness for the White Sox this season. The team’s ERA is only better than the Royals and the Oakland A’s.

Giolito has bounced back nicely from a miserable 2022 season. He had an ERA near five and had a 39% hard-hit ball percentage last season. His hard-hit ball percentage is down to 33% and his average velocity on his fastball is a mile-per-hour higher than last year.

He lowered his FIP from 4.06 last season to 3.88 this year. His return to form has been a welcomed sight especially with Dylan Cease struggling with his command.
