Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito has been one of the team’s few consistent arms this season.

Better enjoy having him around now because USA Today’s Bob Nightengale is reporting that he will not be back next season.

The report is buried in a longer piece about underachieving teams but since he has a good relationship with the team, his little nugget of news should be taken seriously.

Giolito is set to be a free agent after the season. Considering the Sox’ track record of not re-signing starting pitchers, it is not a huge surprise this rumor is out there.

The Chicago White Sox might not be bringing Lucas Giolito back in 2024.

The bad news keeps taking away from any positive events for the organization.

The Chicago White Sox are starting to show signs of life after a miserable April. Injuries have ravaged the lineup. Making matters worse, it seems like when the team is over the injury bug, someone lands on the injured list.

Tim Anderson recently returned while Liam Hendriks and Yoan Moncada are their rehab assignments but Jake Burger and Eloy Jimenez just went on the IL.

Jimenez was on a tear before he needed to have an emergency appendectomy. Burger was mashing the ball before he suffered an oblique injury.

Then there was the Mike Clevinger domestic abuse allegations during Spring Training and owner Jerry Reinsdorf’s recent comments upset the fan base. Now add Giolito possibly pitching only two more months on the Southside to the list of negative news.

This should be the time of good news considering the Sox have won five of their last seven. They also get to play a couple of series against the Kansas City Royals in May. Also, the Chicago White Sox have just one series the rest of the month against a team over .500.

Oh, and Liam Hendriks beat cancer and could return to the team shortly. Instead of celebrating that, the White Sox have chosen to signal that they are going to move on from a pitcher who helped the team become a contender.
