Blackhawks News: What to know about the 2023 Draft Lottery
Monday night is when the National Hockey League will conduct the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery. Obviously, Chicago Blackhawks fans will watch with great interest.
They were awful in 2022-23. You can make a great argument that they had the worse roster in the league for most of the year. They were well coached and bought in which allowed them to have a few more wins than expected.
Instead of coming in last place of the entire NHL as predicted, they came in third to last. Some tough roster management decisions kept them out of dead last which is unfortunate but they still enter this event with top-three odds.
The Anaheim Ducks have the best odds at 25.5 percent. The NHL is on a multi-year streak of the worst team in the league winning the lottery. He would certainly fit in well in Souther California playing with another star like Trevor Zegras.
The second-best odds belong to the Columbus Blue Jackets who sit at 13.5 percent. After a huge off-season last year, they were bad by accident which surprised a lot of people but it could become worth it on a night like this.
The Chicago Blackhawks are hoping to win the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery.
The Chicago Blackhawks then come in third with 11.5 odds. It would be nice for their organization as a whole if they were able to pull out this huge win.
Monday night’s lottery is one of the biggest in the history of the league. That is because of the fact that Connor Bedard is going to be the number-one pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. He is one of the most hyped-up players in the history of Major Junior hockey and NHL prospects in general.
Bedard lit the hockey world on fire in 2022-23 with his play. In 57 games played for the Regina Pats of the WHL, he had 71 goals and 72 assists for 143 points. It was one of the most dominant seasons in the history of that league.
He also played a big role in Team Canada winning the Gold Medal at the 2023 World Junior Championships. In seven games at this major tournament, Bedard had nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points. He led his elite team in scoring by 9 points.
Whichever NHL team lands this kid is going to have a very bright future. If it is the Blackhawks, he would be expected to lead a brand-new core of guys. Kevin Korchinski, Ethan del Mastro, and Lukas Reichel amongst others would all become better prospects if he was added.
Think of the most elite playmaker and then give him the shot of an elite goal scorer. That is Connor Bedard. Everything about the way that the Chicago Blackhawks play would change if he was added to their offensive attack.
Coming off of Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane’s last year with the team, they need someone new to be the face of their franchise. Connor Bedard will be that for whoever lands him. A first-class city like Chicago will be perfect for him.
The event will be televised on ESPN at 7 PM Chicago time. Everyone that loves the Blackhawks will be looking to see if their next great sports star’s name is Connor Bedard.
