Chicago Bears Rumors: 3 players it makes sense to trade right now
By Ryan Heckman
Players the Chicago Bears should trade right now: Velus Jones Jr., WR
Lastly, the Bears could cut ties with Velus Jones Jr. via trade. What, exactly, is his value? It depends on what teams are interested. If you’re looking at a team like the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs or maybe even the Baltimore Ravens, then the Bears could possibly get a fifth-round pick for last year’s third rounder.
Jones didn’t exactly have an inspiring rookie campaign, showing some nerves and making a few key mistakes. But, now that the Bears’ depth chart is getting more crowded at both wide receiver and on special teams, Jones might not have a spot on the team for much longer.
Look at the wide receivers Chicago could keep, for example: DJ Moore, Darnell Mooney, Chase Claypool, Tyler Scott and Equanimeous St. Brown. If they decided to keep a sixth receiver, maybe Dante Pettis sticks around after finding some chemistry with Justin Fields last season.
On special teams, the Bears could see Travis Homer take over a key role, along with maybe the rookie, Scott. They have options, and could afford to just admit failure on the Jones pick while getting something back in return.
