Players the Chicago Bears should trade right now: Cody Whitehair, G/C

The next guy Chicago could end up trading is longtime Bears offensive lineman Cody Whitehair. Having played for the Bears his entire 7-year career, that could be coming to an end if Ryan Poles wants to try and make a mutually-beneficial decision.

By cutting or trading Whitehair, the Bears would save roughly $6 million at minimum. Now, the Bears already have some extra money to work with, and that wouldn’t be the main reason to trade Whitehair at this point.

Poles signed Lucas Patrick last offseason, and if his thumb is completely healthy, then he’s ready to play center and finally able to snap the football. With Patrick at center, and Nate Davis at one of the guard positions, the Bears could actually, believe it or not, try and plug Teven Jenkins in at the other guard spot.

Now, the rumors over the past year would lead you to believe that Poles isn’t a fan of Jenkins. But, if that was really the case, Jenkins would have been gone by now. Poles has kept him around, and that could end up being a great decision. The Bears have a young, aggressive, second-round lineman on their team whom they haven’t truly given a real chance to just yet.

Cutting Whitehair would give him the courtesy of being able to find a new home before training camp, along with cementing Jenkins at the other guard position and giving him an entire offseason of work knowing he’s the starter.
