Life comes at you fast, folks. The Memphis Grizzlies have informed Dillon Brooks that he will not be brought back under any circumstances. And, before any Chicago Bulls fan tries to make kindling toward an argument of bringing him in, let’s retrace some steps here.

For those who might be behind on the matter, Brooks’ antics have only grown worse as the season and playoffs went on. Between failing to show up for his media time and pouting instead (yes, he was fined), calling out LeBron James and proceeding to completely fall apart after doing so, or any of his other low-class, on-court behavior, the Grizzlies have simply had enough.

The last straw had to be the fact that Brooks called out one of the greatest to ever play the game, and in the postseason nonetheless. Brooks hardly has an ounce of playoff experience by comparison, so to make such a bold statement about a guy some would call the greatest of all time, is absolutely hilarious, dangerous and without a doubt the most foolish thing Brooks could have done at that given time.

Although most would agree with that sentiment, Brooks himself does not. He still stands by what he said about LeBron, calling himself a competitor and claiming that he wasn’t the one to get LeBron “geeked up,” but instead that it was the playoffs that did it to the King.

The Chicago Bulls already have who Dillon Brooks wishes he was

This argument could be summed up in one, simple manner.

How to do it right: Alex Caruso

How to do it wrong: Dillon Brooks

I’m sure you get the point, but if you think about it, this is a pretty accurate assessment of the type of player Brooks aspires to be. He has tried for a couple years to be the guy who can get inside the heads of his opponents. He wants to be the guy who plays good defense and makes those game-changing plays.

Yet, all he has done when it matters most, is open his mouth.

Watching Caruso, he plays the game the way it’s supposed to be played. He is a similar stature to Brooks, and gives the Bulls what every team wishes they could have, quite frankly. He’s one of the best defenders in all of basketball and comes up with those gritty, clutch plays when the team needs them most.

So, although one could argue that Brooks can still be a very good player in this league, he’s not worth the headache, and he’s also nowhere near the level he needs to be if he’s going to earn playing time alongside a guy like Caruso.

Stay far away, Bulls. Let’s leave it at that.
