The 2023 NFL Draft saw the Chicago Bears address some major needs early on, with Ryan Poles making the decision to solidify the right tackle position in the first round by drafting Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright.

From there, Poles found two more starters in the second round, only on the defensive side of the ball.

Even in the fourth round, Poles found two players that could end up having major impacts on offense. To say he found value would be an understatement.

Now, looking forward, it’s time to continue shaping this roster. If Poles and the Bears wanted to get ahead, they could end up making a few surprise cuts. At the very least, a few key players are on the hot seat.

Depending on how you look at it, the depth chart could have moved a bit in this area after the draft. Rookie fifth-round pick Terrell Smith could have stepped in front of Jaylon Jones, although he might need to prove himself throughout the summer first.

But, if the Bears didn’t want to mess around and wait for Jones to show some improvement from last year, they could opt to cut him. After all, he was absolutely atrocious in 2022. Jones was a straight-up liability in every sense of the word, and had very few bright moments.

This is a position that is going to be completely flipped on its head following the draft. The Bears took a total of three defensive backs, and even Kindle Vildor isn’t safe. Although, he’s a solid depth piece now that Tyrique Stevenson should be starting ahead of him.

Jones shouldn’t be here when the season rolls around, but if the Bears want to do him a favor and allow him a chance to find a new team sooner rather than later, they could cut ties now.
