Chicago Bears who are on the hot seat after 2023 NFL Draft: QB Nathan Peterman
Nathan Peterman is slated to be the Bears third quarterback on the depth chart, behind recent signee P.J. Walker, and obviously Justin Fields. However, this might change before the start of the season thanks to Tyson Bagent. Bagent wasn’t actually drafted, but he was picked up by the Bears just minutes after the last round concluded.
Bagent spent his college career at Division II Shepard (Shepardstown, West Virginia). In his last season at Shepard, Bagent completed 400 passes on 572 attempts for 4,580 passing yards and 41 touchdowns. It’s fair to say he took the Division II level by storm. Although not playing at the Division I level, Bagent contains both the frame (6’3 210) and athleticism to succeed at the next level.
Going into the summer, Nathan Peterman will have a slight edge on Bagent for the QB3 job, as he was on the Bears roster last season. His familiarity with the system will likely benefit him early on in the offseason. However, Bagent is more than comfortable being the underdog, and will be given every opportunity this offseason to claim a roster spot.
