The Chicago Bears made a very nice selection on Thursday night when they took Darnell Wright out of Tennessee. It was a bit surprising how it all went down but it should be good in the end.

He is an offensive lineman that the Bears project to see become their star defensive tackle on the right side. We can only hope he continues to develop his game that was so good while in college.

Entering the second day of the draft, they had plenty of needs with multiple picks ahead of them in the second and third rounds.

They made some selections that may or may not excite people based on their expectations. No matter what, it will take time for everyone to truly know how Ran Poles did.

The Chicago Bears made three selections on day two of the NFL Draft.

It started in round number two as Devin Hester was the man they selected to make their picks that round. They took Gervon Dexter Sr. with the 53rd overall pick. He is a defensive lineman that played his college football at Florida.

Chicago selected an offensive lineman with their first pick and now a defensive lineman with their second pick. The trenches are where Poles wanted to start and that’s just what he did.

The defense was horrid in 2022 so adding a good defensive lineman should really help the new linebacker core that they build in free agency. This is a really nice pick.

Pick Grade – A

Three picks later at 56, the Chicago Bears traded up and selected Tyrique Stevenson. He started his career at Georgia but transferred to Miami to finish his collegiate career.

Stevenson is a cornerback that should look really nice in the Chicago Bears secondary. With some of the guys that they have there already looking to develop further, this could end up being a really nice pick.

He is a strong and physical player which should translate to what Matt Eberflus tries to do with the defense in 2023. Corner wasn’t a pressing need as much as a few other positions on the line but this is still a solid pick because of Stevenson’s talent.

Pick Grade: C+

Once the third round began, it was interesting to think about what they might do. With the 64th pick of the draft, the Bears selected Zacch Pickens.

This defensive tackle from South Carolina is another good player looking to join the line on defense. That makes it three out of four picks in the trenches for Ryan Poles.

That is smart if you think you have your quarterback in play because those areas on both offense and defense are almost as important.

Pickens was outstanding with South Carolina and would love to become an impact player in the NFL. Day two for the Bears concluded with a really nice pick. He is athletic and should be a force as they try to stop the run game. Developing his pass rush is something they will work on.

Pick Grade: B

The Chicago Bears had an overall really nice day two of the 2023 NFL Draft. They have some big boys coming to town to help this team take the next step.

The final few rounds of the draft will be on Saturday where they will try to build on what they have done so far here with their first four selections.

Final Day 2 Grade: B+
