5 things the Chicago Bears need to happen in the NFL Draft to get the best outcome at No. 9
By Todd Welter
The Chicago Bears relinquished control of the NFL Draft when they traded the No. 1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers.
That is not being written as a bad thing. General manager Ryan Poles got a second-round pick, a future first-round pick, and wide receiver D.J. Moore back.
The only downside is now the Chicago Bears need to hope other teams make decisions that still break their way.
The Houston Texans select Texas Tech pass rusher Tyree Wilson with the No. 2 pick.
Longtime Houston reporter John McClain has it on good authority that the Texans like Wilson’s ability to play both defensive end and tackle. They will then circle back and take Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker at No. 12 to address their need at that position. That would be huge because it would push Will Anderson down to No. 3.
The Texans might be dumb enough to pass on Anderson, but it would be really hard for the Arizona Cardinals to not take the best pass-rushing prospect in the draft. They have a need with J.J. Watt now retired.
The Cardinals could trade back with the Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, or flip spots with the Indianapolis Colts. It is just speculation that they would trade with one of those teams, but all three of those teams need a quarterback. One of those teams might be interested in moving up to make sure they get their quarterback.
Anderson being available at three might be too hard to pass up. Also, the Cardinals could target an offensive lineman and therefore trade back.
If they trade back to No. 7 with Las Vegas, that means the Cardinals could jump ahead of the Chicago Bears and take the first tackle in the draft.
