Chicago Bulls Rumors: Coby White’s price revealed, Bulls likely to match
By Ryan Heckman
With the 2023 NBA Playoffs in full swing and the Chicago Bulls having received an early ticket home, most fans are continuing to enjoy watching the postseason while also looking ahead to an offseason that hold some interesting storylines.
The Bulls’ roster looks like one stuck in mediocrity for the foreseeable future, but with a couple of tweaks, maybe they look more promising. A DeMar DeRozan trade would be intriguing, depending on the return. Seeing Nkola Vucevic walk, and finding a different replacement, would also change the face of this roster as well.
But, there might be no more important offseason move than the decision Chicago makes with free agent guard Coby White.
This past season, White improved drastically, across the board. Offensively, he showed he could not only shoot the three ball but be aggressive on a consistent basis. Defensively, he was a totally different player. His skillset became much more complete, and he definitely blossomed into the type of player the Bulls would let walk away.
You read that right. Do the Bulls really want another Lauri Markkanen situation? Failing to develop and keep talent has been an issue for a while, and White could be the one decision which rights that ship.
Coby White’s offseason price may have been revealed and the Chicago Bulls are rumored to be ready to match
Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun Times recently wrote a quick piece on the Bulls’ offseason and included White’s situation in a little blurb. He made an interesting statement when he wrote about a possible price tag for White and what the Bulls would end up doing in the end:
“White showed enough for the organization to believe in him taking the starting reins, but that comes at a price. White is a restricted free agent, and the Bulls will let the market set a price for him, likely matching it once it does,” Cowley wrote.
“There’s no reason why White won’t be in the $14-$15 million per year range.”
With the way NBA contracts have gone in recent years, that type of range is more than doable for the Bulls. It actually seems fairly reasonable, to be frank. The type of player White is evolving into could end up being the second or third-best player on a title contender, should the Bulls add enough talent to become that type of organization.
If that’s all it takes, then yes, absolutely, it makes sense that the Bulls would want to match. But, if it goes north of that number, should the Bulls maintain that position to pay White?
