Bears News: Aaron Rodgers is finally gone from the division
The Chicago Bears are trying to rebuild their roster from scratch right now. It is a franchise that plays in an NFC North Division that is mostly owned by the Green Bay Packers.
Well, it is going to be a lot harder for them to own it now that Aaron Rodgers has officially been traded away.
We have known for a while now that his intentions are to play for the New York Jets in 2023 but it has taken a while for the trade to be completed.
Well, it is officially draft week which means things tend to get moving a bit. Aaron Rodgers has officially been traded away to the New York Jets in a blockbuster.
The Chicago Bears won’t have to see Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay anymore.
The Jets are getting pick number 15 in the 2023 NFL Draft in addition to a fifth-round pick in the same draft (pick 170).
In return, the Packers are getting pick 13, a second and sixth-round pick in 2023, and a conditional 2024 second that will become a first if Rodgers plays in 65 percent of the plays.
That is quite the blockbuster that moves one of the greatest players to ever lace them up in the NFL. He now joins other elite QBs in the AFC like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert, and Lamar Jackson amongst others.
The Minnesota Vikings won the division in 2022 but they were far from a perfect team as they had many flaws. As long as Green Bay had Rodgers under center, they were the clear favorite coming into almost every year.
Now that they are moved off of their greatest player ever, things might be a bit rocky for them for a while. Unless they get yet another franchise quarterback in there that is MVP caliber, it might be a struggle. That is great news for Bears fans.
Of course, the Detroit Lions are on the come up but they are going to have to still prove it. The Bears, another team that will have to prove it, have a real window of opportunity to win now that Rodgers is gone.
This is a move that shakes up the entire NFC in addition to the North. Green Bay will not be a threat in 2023 unless there is a miracle run in them with the roster that they have. Chicago Bears fans should see this as a fantastic day.
Now, Rodgers leaving Green Bay doesn’t make the Bears good. If the Packers are bad, that means the Bears need to have a good enough team to take advantage of it. Hopefully, Ryan Poles understands that and continues to build things the right way.
