3 former Bears players we’ll be glad are gone and 2 we’ll wish stayed
Player 2 we are happy to see gone – David Montgomery
David Montgomery is headed to a Chicago Bears division rival next year.
The Chicago Bears are not going to have David Montgomery in 2023. He left as a free agent to sign with a division rival. The Detroit Lions have their running back for the next few years as Montgomery will be their guy after some really good seasons with the Bears.
Although his talents will be missed, he won’t be as a whole when you evaluate the entire situation. In today’s NFL, you can’t overpay for running backs. It is very rare that teams get their return on investment when it comes to that position.
The fact that the Bears didn’t overpay for a running back is a big reason that folks won’t miss him. He is a good player but they can find a replacement for him right away. They have Khalil Herbert and a bunch of draft picks to try and find another good back.
The Bears selected Montgomery in the third round of the draft so you never know where their next good one comes from. The 2023 NFL Draft could have a good one for them but they won’t have to pay him as much as Montgomery is getting with Detroit which is a win.
