3. Ian Mitchell

Ian Mitchell is a player that may be like Jonathan Toews in terms of leadership.

Ian Mitchell is probably not a player you were expecting to see on this list. He isn’t a true youngster anymore at 24 years old but he is just coming off his entry-level deal so he isn’t a veteran by any means either. It is pretty obvious that he has leadership qualities as well.

His play on the ice might keep him from this type of honor with the team and we don’t even know for sure if he is in their future plans.

If he is, however, he should be considered a leader on any team he is on. He has shown these qualities for years going back to his younger days. He even ended up being the captain of Denver in 2019-20 when they were very good there.

Mitchell needs to play as well as we know he can if he ever wants to be an NHL captain. He doesn’t need to be the number one defenseman to be the captain either. Leadership skills are leadership skills and he has them.

It may take a while to find a solution to this but these are a few players to think about as Jonathan Toews is done with the team after all these years.
