3 Blackhawks players that can replace Toews as captain
The Chicago Blackhawks just sent off Jonathan Toews on Thursday night in game 82 of the 2022-23 season.
It was a very emotional night at the United Center as their captain is leaving the franchise after so many great moments.
He is the greatest captain in the history of the franchise and one of the greatest captains in the history of the National Hockey League. It is going to be hard to replace a guy like that.
Blackhawks fans don’t want to hear about it now but they are eventually going to name a new captain for the franchise. It has been a while since that has been a need for them.
They may wait for a more organic captain to show up which means they won’t have one in 2023-24 but they also might name a more short-term one for a year or two. These are the players already there capable of being the next Chicago Blackhawks captain:
1. Connor Murphy
Connor Murphy is capable of being a captain that replaces Jonathan Toews.
Connor Murphy has mostly only been with the Chicago Blackhawks during some tough times. They acquired him right at the end of their playoff run but that doesn’t mean that he has been anything short of a very good player for this team.
He has also exemplified leadership on this team which is why he has had an A on his sweater while Toews dawned the C.
Murphy is signed beyond this year for three more so he would make a great short-term captain of this franchise. He will certainly get consideration if they decide to go into 2023-24 with someone wearing the C on their sweater.
