2. Alex Stalock

Alex Stalock had a great year with the Blackhawks but he won’t be back.

The Chicago Blackhawks have a lot of young goaltenders that they are going to be needing to give minutes to in 2023-24. As a result, they have no reason to bring back Alex Stalock. His contract was just for a year so there is no chance that the 35-year-old is back next year.

Stalock was shockingly impressive in 2022-23. To be honest, his good play might be the difference between the best odds and the third-best odds in the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery. It isn’t amazing to think about that but it is the reality of it.

Stalock started the final game of the season against the Philadelphia Flyers and he played okay. He gave his team a chance to win as he usually did throughout the season.

Stalock might be able to take this season and use it as a way to get a job next year. If he had a terrible year, he’d probably have no chance at a job next year. Instead, he should be proud of the year even if it did potentially cost the Blackhawks Connor Bedard. What does he care?
