Getting good players in the late rounds is important for the Chicago Bears.

Round Five

841. . RB. Rebels . Zach Evans. 136. player

The Chicago Bears may or may not draft a running back in 2023. It is fair to think that they will and that they should at some point. They have a few guys there already but David Montgomery’s absence is going to be noticeable if they don’t adequately replace his production.

Zach Evans is someone that they could easily consider in the early stages of the fifth round. He is a back that comes from Ole Miss and is ready to start his career as a runner in the NFL.

895. . S. Broncos . JL Skinner. 148. player

JL Skinner is a safety that comes from Boise State and is projected to go at some point in the fifth round. Chicago can use the pick that was given to them by the New England Patriots to select him here.

They are likely going to look at a few defensive backs in this one so a safety isn’t out of the question. Skinner could be one of those players that steps into the secondary right away and makes an impact. He could also sit there and learn for a while which is always nice to see.

The Chicago Bears don’t have a sixth-round pick at this time so we move into the seventh round.

Round Seven

TE. Hurricanes . Will Mallory. 218. player. 834.

The Chicago Bears may look to add a second tight end with Cole Kmet to work on developing while having a backup for multiple reasons.

Will Mallory coming out of The U is a good choice for a TE once the seventh round hits. He might be able to come to the NFL and make some noise right away. It is a worthy risk to take at this point of the draft.

. QB. Horned Frogs . Max Duggan. 258. player. 872

Whoever the Chicago Bears take with pick 258 is going to be one selection away from Mr. Irrelevant. The Chicago Bears should consider making the pick quarterback Max Duggan out of TCU if he is still there at that point of the seventh round.

Max Duggan was the quarterback that led the TCU Horned Frogs all the way to the College Football Playoff where they won a game before being defeated in the championship. He isn’t a supremely gifted player but he has proven that he can win big games at the NCAA level.

He deserves an NFL shot which will likely start in the role of a backup. Justin Fields isn’t someone that is believed to be healthy all the time so having a good backup is going to be important for the Bears in the coming year. Adding someone like Max Duggan is a good idea.

If the Chicago Bears ended up having a draft like this, they might actually be able to have some long-term success built around Justin Fields.
