Blackhawks News: Toews scores in his final game with Chicago
The Chicago Blackhawks played game 82 of 82 on Thursday night. It was a tough season and we won’t know the results of the draft lottery odds until after a couple of more games finish but Chicago is in the running because they were so bad.
Unfortunately, the final game of this season is also the final game of Jonathan Toews’ tenure with the franchise that drafted him. He went from being a third-overall pick in 2006 to one of the greatest players to ever dawn a Chicago Blackhawks sweater.
In his career, he was named to be one of the 100 greatest players ever during the league’s centennial season. That is a result of multiple championships, a playoff MVP, and lots of personal awards and achievements both at the NHL and the international level.
His final game resulted in an overtime loss but Jonathan Toews always reacted properly to both wins and losses. He had one of his best games of the season in this one as he scored in his final game. It is fitting since he scored in his first career game with the Blackhawks as well.
The Chicago Blackhawks are going to remember this night for a long time.
Scoring a goal in this game is a really nice moment for the captain and something that he will never forget. He ends his Blackhawks career with 372 goals and 511 assists for 883 points in 1067 games played. Not bad at all.
Now, we will wait to see if this franchise great will put on another sweater in his career or hang up the skates. He missed some time this season with his illness otherwise he for sure would have been a 20-goal scorer (he had 15 in 53 games played).
There are a lot of teams out there who could use him in their middle six. He can still win lots of faceoffs, score some goals, and bring tons of leadership which is all valuable in the National Hockey League today.
This has been the greatest decade and a half in Chicago Blackhawks’ history and Toews was a huge part of it. We don’t have to think about the future just yet after a night like tonight but you can only hope that another core like the one they just had is on the way.
Although it came too soon, it is nice to see that the Blackhawks did a very good job sending out the captain the right way.
