Blackhawks News: This is Jonathan Toews’ last game in Chicago
Earlier during the 2022-23 season, Chicago Blackhawks fans said goodbye to Patrick Kane as he moved on to the New York Rangers.
Now, after some speculation, it became clear that they are going to have to say goodbye to Jonathan Toews.
On Thursday morning, ahead of the final game of the year, it came out that this is going to be his last game with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Hawks released a note from general manager Kyle Davidson:
Jonathan Toews’ final game with the Chicago Blackhawks will be on Thursday.
This is something that all fans have been expecting for a while but it still never feels real until it is. Jonathan Toews is one of the five greatest players to ever put on the Chicago sweater.
He was named to be one of the 100 greatest players in NHL history during the league’s centennial season. All of that is a result of three Stanley Cups, a Conn Smythe Trophy, a Selke Trophy, and the Messier Award amongst other great statistics in both the regular season and playoffs.
The former third overall pick in the 2006 NHL Draft should be incredibly proud of himself and what he accomplished with his team.
Along with Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, and Brent Seabrook, they were one of the greatest cores in the history of the National Hockey League.
The note from Kyle Davidson makes it seem like Toews may not be headed toward retirement. He very well could retire but he might think he has a bit to offer in the NHL. As long as he can get on the ice, he absolutely is still an effective middle-six centerman.
Toews’s time with the Blackhawks feels like the fastest 16 years of all time but it was loaded with amazing moments. The folks will remember him amongst some of the greatest players to ever represent this town in any sport.
His final game as a Hawk will come against the Philadelphia Flyers who are the team that he won his first Stanley Cup against (he also received the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player in the Playoffs). Surely, Chicago fans will send him off the right way before, during, and after.
