The Chicago Bears made some big splashes in free agency, signing linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards.

However, they didn’t make a huge splash for the defensive line.

They signed former Titans defensive lineman Deamarcus Walker to a 3-year, $21 million deal. He put up 7 sacks and 32 tackles in 2022.

They also added former Raiders defensive tackle Andrew Billings. He started 14 games for the Raiders and put up 39 tackles. Billings is a big traditional nose tackle that can eat up space and create opportunities for others.

ESPN has the Bears starting front four as Trevis Gipson, Justin Jones, Andrew Billings, and Demarcus Walker.

Those are all decent players, but none that really stick out. The Bears still have some work to do in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Adding a defensive lineman in the 2023 NFL Draft should be a priority for the Chicago Bears

It’s a tough situation for General Manager Ryan Poles. The Bears had one of the worst run defenses in 2022. In theory, you’d expect him to make that his top priority.

Unfortunately, free agency doesn’t always work that way. There were not a lot of “great” defensive tackles that hit the open market.  Poles did a good job not overspending for middle-tier players. It’s still possible that Poles will pick up some D-linemen after the draft to improve the room, but right now it’s time to turn to the draft.

The Bears could very well pick an offensive lineman at 9th overall, which means they might have to rely on their day two picks to address the trenches. Here are four day-2 defensive tackle options for the Bears.
