The Chicago Bears desperately need help along the offensive line.

If training camp were to open today, the Bears would have Larry Borom and Alex Leatherwood battling it out for the starting right tackle job.

That is how thin the roster is along the offensive line.

In a pivotal season for quarterback Justin Fields, general manager Ryan Poles has not done much this offseason to upgrade those charged with protecting Fields.

Nate Davis was signed to bolster the line’s interior, but there is still a lot of work to be done to have a line worthy enough of protecting a franchise quarterback.

The plan seems to be counting on left tackle Braxton Jones getting stronger in the offseason. Cody Whitehair may move back to center. Lucas Patrick might also get another shot to be the starting center after a forgettable 2022 season.

Teven Jenkins currently remains the Chicago Bears’ best offensive lineman. Jenkins also comes with injury concerns regarding his neck and back.

Let’s not even discuss the depth chart behind these guys because there is no proven quality players backing them up.

Poles was rumored to be interested in signing Mike McGlinchey, but he chose to sign with the Denver Broncos.

Thankfully, this is a good draft for offensive tackles. The Bears own the No. 9 pick in this year’s NFL Draft. That is prime position to land one of the top offensive tackle prospects.

Northwestern’s Peter Skoronski is considered to be one of the best offensive linemen prospects in the draft. He comes with a lot of upside and skill, but he also has one major drawback that might not solve the Bears’ issue at offensive tackle.
