The Chicago Blackhawks have used a lot of goalies since Corey Crawford was here last. They are still trying to find that guy that is going to be the answer in the long term. Arvid Soderblom is someone that they believe might have the talent to do so but he isn’t the only one.

They also believe that Boston University goalie Drew Commesso has a chance to be that guy. They selected him with their second-round pick (46th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft. Since then, he has played amazingly at BU where he grew his game more and more every day.

His 2022-23 season came to an end with the Terriers last Thursday as they were defeated by Minnesota in the semi-finals of the Frozen Four. Before that, BU won the Hockey East championship. Commesso went 24-8-0 with a 2.46 goals-against average.

It was an amazing run for that team as they had some big wins just to be in the dance this season. They should be proud of how it all went for them as a team.

Drew Commesso is coming to the Chicago Blackhawks on his entry-level deal.

On Monday, Drew Commesso signed his entry-level deal with the Chicago Blackhawks. He is joining other Frozen Four participants like Luke Hughes, Matthew Knies, and Brock Faber as players who are already signed in the NHL following the end of the tournament.

Commesso is not going to play for the Hawks in their final week so the contract will start in 2023-24. It is a three-year entry-level deal. The hope is that they sign him for a lot more money after those three years because that would mean that he was awesome.

You’ll see some of the other players that signed play this year because they are skaters that can help their playoff-bound teams.

The Chicago Blackhawks are a horrible team that would do nothing good for Commesso’s development this year. You don’t want to risk shaking up his confidence either because any goalie would struggle on this team right now.

In 2023-24, he may find his struggles early but the team defense in front of him should at least be a little bit better. Right now, they have no business inserting him into action. With that in mind, it is good to see him locked up as he is set to turn pro next year.

The Blackhawks are hoping to have a very good draft that will accelerate their already solid farm system that Commesso is a part of. They need to make sure that they get the goaltending position figured out and this kid could be part of the solution.
