The Chicago Blackhawks control their draft lottery destiny now

The Chicago Blackhawks are rebuilding. It has been a tough season in a lot of ways but they have been accomplishing a lot of their long-term goals. Kyle Davidson has to be happy with what he has accomplished in the last year or so.

Their farm system is good and only getting better. They have a solid coach that gets the most out of his players. Now, they have a chance to change their franchise at the 2023 NHL Draft.

There are still and a handful of games left to be played but they now control their own draft lottery destiny.

Entering Monday, the Hawks have the fewest amount of points in the league and the lowest points percentage. Chicago has 54 while the Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets are right above them with 56. The San Jose Sharks are up there at 59 as well.

Beyond that, a team outside of those four would be getting extremely lucky if they won the draft lottery this year.

The Chicago Blackhawks have a chance to change their franchise forever.

It has been a while since the Hawks were in dead last all by themselves. They had some good games following the deadline but have been sliding again lately. It isn’t fun in the present but it could create more fun in the future.

Every one of these teams wants to land Connor Bedard. Even Adam Fantilli as the second-overall pick would be nice as well. Finishing last guarantees that you will not finish lower than third in the draft order which is also nice to know.

After how bad this season has been, it would be a disaster to see them picking 4th, 5th, or 6th. That just can’t happen. With six games left, it is time to buckle down and tank this thing.

It starts on Tuesday night against the Calgary Flames who are fighting so hard to take that final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. That is in Calgary followed by two more games on the West coast of Canada and the U.S.

The Vancouver Canucks and Seattle Kraken are both teams that should beat the Hawks but Seattle is the one going to the playoffs of the two.

After that, the Hawks come home to play a division rival one more time in the Minnesota Wild. With the way that the Wild have been playing this year, that should be one the Hawks are able to lose.

To close out the season, the Hawks face off against the two Pennsylvania teams. Their final road game of the season will take place against the Pittsburgh Penguins who are going to likely be in the playoffs again.

Two days after that, their final game will be at home against the Philadelphia Flyers. Philly is not going to the playoffs but are much better than the Hawks. If the Hawks earn four points or less in this stretch to end the year, they should be in great shape.
