Chicago Bears Draft: This mock first round trade would be perfect
By Ryan Heckman
Heading toward the 2023 NFL Draft, it’s anyone’s guess as to what the Chicago Bears will do with their no. 9 pick.
After dealing the first overall pick to the Carolina Panthers in a blockbuster trade, the Bears ended up with even more draft capital and moved down to number nine. Still, general manager Ryan Poles could wind up moving down once more if the right value is there.
If the Bears can move down just a couple more spots, or so, and end up with a player they really like in the first round, then Poles will pull the trigger. He’s proven he’ll make a move if he’s convicted.
One possible scenario for the Bears is if Kentucky quarterback Will Levis falls out of the top eight picks, as some have predicted. If that’s the case, then there is a perfect scenario where the Bears move back just a bit with a team like the Tennessee Titans.
A first round trade back with the Tennessee Titans would be the perfect scenario for the Chicago Bears
This trade would happen should Levis fall and be available at number nine. The Titans would move up to select Levis, being that they desperately need a quarterback.
Levis would come in and likely win the starting job as a rookie, over last year’s rookie Malik Willis. For a team that’s rebuilding and actively trying to trade their star running back, Derrick Henry, this is a move that works out well for Tennessee. Only giving up one additional pick to get a franchise quarterback is a big move.
Meanwhile, the Bears are still able to land one of the top players on their board at number 11 overall.
Chicago gets to draft one of the best offensive linemen in the class at 11, going with Ohio State’s Paris Johnson Jr. He will come in and start on the right side, immediately, and essentially fill out the Bears’ starting offensive line with Braxton Jones, Lucas Patrick, Cody Whitehair and Nate Davis.
Additionally, the Bears walk away with an extra third rounder this year, which will prove to be extremely valuable.
Poles moves down just two spots, gets a cornerstone offensive lineman and also gets himself an extra pick in the third round. It isn’t another blockbuster by any means, but this would prove to be a subtle deal that impacts the team greatly.
