Every year, HBO’s series ‘Hard Knocks’ is one of the most entertaining and popular television series in the sports world, and this year, the Chicago Bears are one of just four eligible teams to appear on the program.

To participate in the show, the franchise must not have a rookie head coach, not have made the playoffs last year and can’t have participated in the show in the last decade. Only the Bears, Saints, Jets and Commanders qualify.

Bears chairman George McCaskey was asked this week about whether he believes the Bears are a good candidate for the show, and how his interest level in the program might be measured at the moment.

“We feel there are a number of teams that have compelling stories to tell on ‘Hard Knocks.'”

McCaskey was then asked which teams he believes have compelling stories to tell on the show.

“Thirty-one others,” he said.

Chicago Bears chairman George McCaskey must realize that ‘Hard Knocks’ could completely change a national narrative

Clearly, McCaskey isn’t interested in the Bears being on the HBO series. But, what he doesn’t realize, is that this show could do wonders in changing a national narrative that had built within some outlets over the past year.

Ryan Poles was crucified by some for the lack of moves he made during his first year, along with trading Khalil Mack and completely stripping the roster down.

Justin Fields was obliterated by many media members for a plethora of unwarranted opinions, such as the notion he’s only a runner and can’t throw.

The Bears have consistently been a team that the media loves to hate. The Bears-Packers rivalry has become a running joke within the national media at this stage.

But, what Poles has been able to do over the course of his second offseason, thus far, has been nothing short of impressive. Going out and adding talent around Fields, filling in some holes with tremendous value via free agency, and still having the draft left to go, Poles has yet another chance to impress.

Should the Bears’ training camp and preseason happenings be featured for the world to see, they might end up having a different opinion on guys like Fields, Poles and the rest of the organization. Only Bears fans, who have paid close attention, know the type of guy Fields is; his work ethic, his talent, etc. It’s the rest of the world who look only at box scores and attempt to fit them into a false narrative.

Get this Bears team on the big stage, for all to see, and the behind-the-scenes action might just start to shift those narratives even more than what Poles has been able to accomplish during the 2023 offseason.
