Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Ryan Poles does a masterful job filling holes
By Ryan Heckman
The Bears signed D’Onta Foreman to take over the role of David Montgomery, but Khalil Herbert will likely step into the RB1 role and man the bulk of the carries. Still, Foreman could see a good chunk of carries with more of a 60/40 split between he and Herbert.
There is still room for one more back to get a few snaps, though, and Trestan Ebner didn’t look like a guy who will pan out as that type of role. If the Bears can get a guy like Keaton Mitchell, they wouldn’t think twice about keeping him over Ebner.
Mitchell is one of the draft’s most electric players with the ball in his hand. He’s just 5-foot-8, 179 pounds but ran a 4.37 in his 40-yard dash and, if he’s in the open field, watch out. As a fifth rounder, Mitchell is a great value and offers big play ability.
The Bears continue bolstering their cornerback depth, here, giving the team another reserve to sit next to Vildor after drafting Williams to move into a starting role. Louisville cornerback Kei’trel Clark offers prototypical size as an outside corner, standing 5-foot-10, 182 pounds.
He’s got great speed, running a 4.42 at the Combine and combines that with a super-competitive nature. The negatives can be coached out of him, but where Clark excels is simply how he plays the game. He plays with a purpose and passion, and gives the Bears a highly-twitchy athlete that can be used on special teams as well.
